There have definitely been moments of discouragement and questioning if I’m doing the right thing during the three years that I’ve had my own business as a web designer and marketing strategist for small businesses.
I struggle with thoughts of inadequacy and if I’m being financially responsible by pursuing my passions by running a business. And if you’re a business owner, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about!
Starting your own business usually means not making the kind of profit you want for a few years. And there are times when you wonder if you ever will. That’s why I picked today’s Monday Motivation – because I need this reminder too.
“Enthusiasm is common. Endurance is rare.” – Angela Duckworth, author of Grit: The Power of Passion and Perserverance.
I plan on writing a blog post highlighting the main points of Angela’s book because it’s one of the most encouraging books I’ve read as a business owner in the past several years (stay tuned for that!).
The basic premise of her research is that when it comes to success perseverance is more important than natural talent or ability.
There are SO many times I’ve doubted my innate talent or specialness. Do I have what it takes to stand out amongst the crowd? How can I communicate my value and be heard?
Once I read that line in her book I realized that I can totally do this. If the MAIN difference between those who succeed and do not succeed is sheer determination, grit, and perseverance…then I can TOTALLY do that. I can show up day after day and work as hard as I can. And so can you.
