You’ve decided it’s time for a new website design, but where do you begin? These are the things you’ll need in place to begin a new website design.
Clear Measurable Goals
One key element when starting any process is to have clear goals written out. That will be how you measure the success of your website. Identify the stats that matter the most to your business and compile those statistics from the past three months. If you haven’t already, install Google Analytics Dashboard For WP to help track this.
Ask yourself – what results do I want? Are you looking for conversions, more inquiries, increased blog post shares, etc.
Before working with a web designer, make sure you have a logo, brand fonts, brand colors, and brand guidelines for your business. If you have worked with a branding designer to develop a branding identity then you should have a style guidebook that includes all of these specifications (like what fonts your brand uses in marketing materials, what your core brand colors are, etc).
If it’s in your budget, I highly recommend working with a copywriter experienced in creating sales funnels and writing lead magnets. Not only will you be able to use this on your website, but also throughout your marketing materials!
Where will you be sourcing photography for your company? Will you be purchasing stock photos, using free stock photos, or hiring a branding photographer?
The Bottom Line
You’ll want to be as prepared as you can be before hiring a web designer. However, if you are stuck on a few of these steps, reach out and ask if they have anyone they could recommend who they have worked with before in that particular area of expertise (photography, copywriting, etc).
